Recent Brilliant Smart Reviews
Probably the most ugly and unattractive UI that I’ve seen! The icons and graphics look cheap and unattractive. It’s painfully slow and glitchy. It takes ages to start up and there is no dark mode. The general user experience is very poor and I only use it through Google home, which itself is ugly and clunky, but still far better. I really REALLY wish they would update this app!!
I’m giving this app one star because it is simply awful and doesn’t allow you to setup procedures in any sort of detail. If you are on the globe page, all you can do is schedule for it to turn off and on for the last mode you had active. In the automation page, you can setup automation and sequences which notionally should allow you to set any of the modes with, but that doesn’t work at all, it only sets the globe to white. There is more, but char limit. The app is limiting and badly designed.
App is so glitchy. Just installed the doorbell and it won’t let me change the sensor sensitivity or turn it off. It keeps reverting back to high. Brilliant also need to review the UI as it is not very intuative or functional to change settings for specific things. I wanted to turn the alerts off for a single camera, but it did it for everything.. I would also expect more updates to be available too. It hasn’t had an update since Nov21 which is evident by some of the bugs..
Edit: I just found out that you can only link it with Alexa if your Amazon account locatiin is Australia. I only needed that for voice control, not a problem. This is a still a brilliant app though. I found it after a guy with his own UK smart home channel on youtube mentioned it. I got some foreign smart plugs off ebay and they just would not work. This is the ONLY app that helped me, and now my plugs work. I fully fully fully reccommend this app and want to say a big THANK YOU!
Works well once you get it set up. Interface isn’t the best. Linkage to Google Home could be simpler. When I changed router recently, there was no way to transition my 7 devices to the new connection / new password. There wasn’t even a way to do it individually! So I had to delete the app, reload and start from scratch. This needs to be addressed.
Works most of the time, but that’s not really good enough is it. I bought a power socket so that I could switch the power to our garage door off overnight (we’ve had a lot of burglaries where garage doors have been activated by thieves using universal remotes). Went through setup – not rocket science but not exactly straightforward – and had a play with the app to switch the power socket on and off. Initially quite successful but then noticed that sometimes the socket would be on and the app was telling me it was off (and vice versa). So now once I’ve turned the socket off using the app I have to go and physically check that the socket is actually off, thus rendering the use of the wifi remote control of the socket utterly pointless! I might as well just switch it off manually every night. As another reviewer said this also badly needs some kind of widget so you can put the switches on the home page of your phone to enable you to turn it on and off without searching for the app, turning it on, finding the correct device and then switching it which is very annoying. Nice idea, doesn’t seem to work that well.
The app would be greatly improved if it were possible to disable the useless weather function. I don’t know how many times I have inadvertantly turned off a device as a result of the weather moving the screen around on opening. Not only is the weather function useless, it is also for the most part inaccurate. A good app mared by trying to be too cute.
These globes are super amazing for the first couple of months or so- until the novelty wears off and they disconnect from the WiFi… They just flash constantly and then you have to go through the process of connecting to the WiFi again!! This has happened about 3 times the past couple of months for me and I’ve had to use lamps until I have time to fix it!🤦♀️ It is cool having the ability to change colours and sequences! But not sure if it’s worth it, reconnecting all of the time.
Functions reasonably well. Would have liked to see greater stability to assigned devices that respond on a consistent basis rather than an ad-hoc experience – It is just what you need to hear late a night… “Google was unable to connect to Brilliant Smart or Google was unable to control 5 devices please check their network connections and try again… The app is remarkably similar to the Grid (arlec) app and due to the recent surge in the number of users of these devices increasing (based on number of downloads of each app) coinciding with the decline in stability is hopefully not a bottleneck problem with the servers used to “host” the devices. LAN control does not seem to be an option which is rather frustrating for people who have multiple layers of security to have to locate and whitelist the connections – which have also seemed to change recently – however, performance is even more degraded.
I’ve used this for our outdoor sensor lights and its ok. It’s not possible to use Google assistant with them to turn them on or off when they are in sensor mode (which is all the time) so that feature is pretty unless that could be fixed. I recently got a led rgbw strip controller so I can have everything controlled by one app but sadly it doesn’t turn off or dim the white lights, just the colored ones. So can’t really use that either.
