If your kid is in that phase of pointing to objects and loudly naming them, kidroid might be his favorite kids app, because it does exactly that. The creator of the game says kidroid is best suited for kids of ages between 3 and 5, but we think most kids start a little younger with this point-and-pronounce phase.

The kidroid app shows pictures of objects and animals that can be matched to other images, written text or a spoken word. Obviously matching the image to a written word is much harder for a two year old than a five year old, but not impossible. Because even though they can't read, they still learn to recognize the patterns of the word (offering great bragging possibilities for the proud parents of course: "Look, not even three years old and he can already read!"). 

The voice matching option means that the app reads out the name of the image, whereupon the child must match it with an object. Great fun and also very educational for toddlers. W'd say that the kidroid app starts to be fun for children when they're about 18 months, providing they've got good language skills.
