Nice app, but runs only with strong Internet and doesn’t show fullscreen view.
Animations in sports Livestreams (ie. before and after replays during live sports) often cause multiple microstutters right after. probably buffering issue, maybe caused by Bitrate or key frames. Seems like an oversight during design phase. Needs to be better in QA. Also, lately live-menu didn’t show any channel, unsure if one-time issue or persistent issue yet. I’d like to subscribe to recurring formats, otherwise profile is quite useless.
Every link I click on in emails or messages takes me to this App, not to the browser on my device! I can watch TV, but every time I want to open a link from an email I have to copy and paste it into the browser because this app decides to try to open the link instead. Very buggy and frustrating! I will not use this app until fixed & instead try to use the browser.
I switched from the old ARD app to this new version today, for my Tatort addiction 😉. Just a bit of feedback to improve: the subtitles have a black background, can’t you make it transparant, it’s not visually pleasing. Furthermore, there are no dates of original broadcast anymore, would be great to see them in the list of episodes. And last but not least, to me it seems the quality of video has been downgraded compared to the old Das Erste app. Is this temporary? Oh, am using Android TV btw.

It’s 20.01, about a month since other reviewers mentioned the problem, and still, the Mediathek app randomly opens as a default browser when clicking links that has nothing to do with it (I wasn’t prompted to chose a default browser, it just randomly redirects to the hopepage of the app when clicking a link in an email in gmail, for example)
I had been using the App for at least 2 years with no issues and with the latest update are faced with all the problems previous comment described (crashing, opening browser etc) . What went wrong? My AmazonFire TV is having the same problems. Not sure if this is connected to the Android app but it also needs fixing fast!
Overall a good app that delivers on its promise – providing a library of past broadcasts by public media channels. The only problem I’ve had so far were slight UI performance problems when typing a search term, but nothing serious.
Average content considering that it’s funded by public money. And get your supported links setting in grip. Instead of supporting “*”, you should just support “*.ard.mediathek”. This will solve the problem of automatically opening browser/other links. Also there is no option to customise the playback speed.
Since today’s update (23.12.20), this app opens whenever I open any link in any other app (eg my email app or Whatsapp). Instead of a web browser, I’m confronted by the ARD app, that can’t do anything with the link, of course. Same thing started happening on me wife’s device at the same time, so it must be something to do with the update. Very very annoying – please fix, ARD. Update: beginner’s bug still not fixed after weeks. Everyone in ARD development still asleep after Xmas?
